Human stories with fantastical settings and circumstances

What I Write

As with the editing side of things, there are two genres that I focus on, fantasy and horror. My earliest memories of falling in love with a book come from the Harry Potter and Chronicles of Narnia series. As I got a bit older, I discovered The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and the fantasy genre had cemented its place in my heart. To me, fantasy has always been a genre where anything is possible, and that pure freedom enables authors to create uniquely memorable experiences that engage with readers emotionally like nothing else.

Horror is something of the opposite, in a way. While fantasy usually inspires wonder, fear is the goal in horror. Even still, I’ve always been drawn to the dark and strange. Thinking of creepy and downright unsettling scenes comes easy to me, and I’m fascinated by the range of possible subtle effects well written horror can have on a reader. Though I’m not working on any horror projects right now, I do incorporate horror elements into fantasy, and I have horror projects planned for the future.

Traditional genres and tropes are traditional for a reason; they’re classics, but I’ve never been a fan of the well worn path. No, I prefer a twist or two. Sub-genres, blending genres, and subverting conventional tropes are favorites of mine, both as a writer and as a reader. I want to see elements transposed from one genre to another and the expected turned on its head, so I aspire to do the same. As of now, I don’t have any projects that fit into a traditional genre box, and you certainly won’t be seeing “The Chosen One” trope from me any time soon.

My Books & Writing

Right now, I don’t have any published books. I’ve been writing non-fiction content for various publications across the web for years, but that’s certainly not the same thing, and it’s not the reason I started writing, not by a long shot.

Currently, I’m working on a series of novellas set in an urban fantasy world. That world, and its characters, have haunted me for years. Always in the background, they’d follow me, becoming more real, developing into something that, I sincerely hope, is worth reading. I’ve spent more time than I care to consider building that world, its history, and the systems that drive it. Finally, I’ve committed to put pen to paper(er, hands to keyboard), and turn it into reality.

After reading that, your probably think I’m some delusional wack-job who thinks he’s got the next big thing. I don’t. Like any writer, my story is important to me, and I only hope to share it and find other people who enjoy it.

The first novella in the series is drafted and in the editing process. It’s a self-contained urban fantasy which follows a group of anti-heroes with something of an investigative storyline. It may be urban fantasy, but it doesn’t quite fit the mold of much of what’s out there. There’s no major romance component, and you won’t find any boy wizards. This one’s more rooted in the action genre. I’m making good progress on it, and it’s nearing completion.

From there, I’ll be moving on to the rest of the series. Each novella is technically a standalone, but they all follow the same characters in the same world, and there will be more than one thread running through the background. I can’t get too far into the details just yet, but the first couple of entries in the series are scheduled to arrive later in 2020.
